Hugh Mackay and Pam HoodOn Friday 25th January the Membership Secretary Hugh Mackay and the acting Chairman Murdo Ferrier were interviewed by BBC local Radio Leicester at 8.20am regarding the celebration of Robbie Burns that night. The Interviewer was quite surprised to see the venue Birstall Golf Club bedecked with Scottish regalia, who was informed of a brief history of the Scottish Bard and why he is celebrated.

In the evening around 60 members and guests of Leicester Caledonian Society were treated to Haggis duly addressed by Hugh Mackay after being piped in by Hon Piper Brad Yates.

Gina FerrierThe evening continued with Fraternal greetings read by Hon Secretary Gina Ferrier from neighboring Societies, followed by a rendition of a song “There was a lad born in Kyle” by Pam Hood followed by the Address to the Immortal Memory given by John Seditas, a native of Ayrshire.

Two pipers played dance tunes in recognition of Burns visits to dancing classes with a researched Toast to the Lassies given by Robert Brown. In response to the toast was given in song again by Pam Hood “The Star ’o Robbie Burns”

The evening concluded with some more stirring piping tunes before all joined in “Auld Lang Syne”.
