Yesterday, at the RBWF Headquarters in the Dower House, Dean Castle Country Park, Kilmarnock, the President of the Robert Burns World Federation and the Managing Director of Isle of Arran Whisky signed a contract confirming the Arran based distillery to be the exclusive supplier of Robert Burns Whisky.
President Jane Brown welcomed Euan Mitchell to the Dower House for the official signing ceremony and expressed appreciation for the support being given to the Federation. This new agreement enhances a long-standing partnership with Isle of Arran Distillers. Also in attendance were Senior Vice President of the Federation, James Thomson, Junior Vice President, Dr Peter Hughes, Past President and Marketing Director, Murdo Morrison, and Chief Executive, Alison Tait.
The Bard himself had a word or two to say about whisky including the expression “Freedom an' whisky gang thegither” and whisky is also quoted in the famous Tam O’ Shanter poem as a provider of courage. In his excise duties the Bard would certainly come across occasions and locations when distilling was taking place.
The Robert Burns World Federation represents Burns Clubs and Members throughout the world and is based at Kilmarnock through the co-operation of East Ayrshire Council. Whoever holds the office of Provost in East Ayrshire also carries the title of Honorary President of the Burns Federation. Currently that honour falls to Cllr Jim Todd.
