Ravenscraig Burns Club share their success

Ravenscraig Burns Club, once again, very kindly shared the success, and proceeds, of one of their best ever Burns Suppers.

This support boosts the works of the national bard among school children across Scotland.

The Committee decided to share the proceeds equally between The Robert Burns World Federation and Lanarkshire Association of Burns Clubs with each organisation receiving £900.

Club treasurer, Tommy Brennen, said that this was another excellent response and that he couldn't thank the members, supporters and sponsors enough for the way they respond year after year.

Ayrshire-based Jim Thomson, President of The Robert Burns World Federation said his response was one of astonishment. Once again the people of Lanarkshire have been extremely generous to the Federation. This is very much appreciated and the money will be used to help fund our annual Scottish schools' competitions. We also now run competitions for students from Russia and Ukraine for essays in English about Robert Burns.

Patricia Leslie, Immediate Past President of the Lanarkshire Association of Burns Clubs said it had been a privilege to come to Motherwell and be handed such a valuable cheque. This will go towards the running costs of this year's Lanarkshire competition being held in Clyde Valley High School.

There is a growing interest in young people involved with the Burns competitions, both in primary and in secondary schools, and this is a feature we are keen to cultivate.
